Spring Street
by Cornelia Barber
Spring Street, maps a period in time clutched with extremes, powered by an energy carried back with sensuous care that gives corporality to grief. As a rhapsodic dance that laments, angers, and explores sensuality in the depths of loss and complicates our feelings towards rhetorical expressions of pain.
As Brenda Lijima says of Spring Street, “…a gossamer architecture quite taunt in places. Pathos enters in but never rules. There is a power of feminine authority in knowledge and desire. Steeped in philosophy and theory but alive to every sensation independent of rhetorical modality. ‘Lo, she said, formulation…’ I’m dazzled by every poem and how they hold together in energetic semblance but never the same.”
